Evidence-Based Guides
- Training for Hypertrophy: Reconciling the Impacts of Short Rests with Drop Sets and Rest-Pause Training. Short rests seem to be worse for hypertrophy, yet drop sets ("no rest" training) and rest-pause training ("extremely short rest" training) have shown some benefit. How can we reconcile these apparently opposing lines of evidence? The answer has important implications for program design.
Video Research Reviews
- Impact of Lifting Tempo on Strength and Hypertrophy. Does purposely slowing down the eccentric portion help you gain more size?
- Impact of Resistance Training on Muscle Work Efficiency and NEAT. Can weight training help improve NEAT and possibly counteract adaptive thermogenesis?
Classic Research Reviews
- What Does It Take to Successfully Maintain Weight?. I've covered a lot in the past on the physiological adaptations to weight loss and how these adaptations make it tougher to maintain weight. What about the psychological aspects of long-term weight maintenance? These are just as important. I cover some qualitative research on this topic.
